Join the UChicago Center for Effective Government and Protect Democracy on Wednesday, June 2 at 12:00pm CDT for a panel discussion with scholars to discuss the origins of the Senate filibuster and its implications for governance. How does the modern filibuster relate to the Constitution and the founders' original designs? Do the current cloture rules effectively strengthen or weaken our democracy? This interdisciplinary panel highlights some of the more than 350 historians, political scientists, and legal scholars who have recently called for filibuster reform.
