From Votes to Value: Does Democracy Deliver?
Tue. Apr 29, 2025
5:45 — 7:15 PM CDT
Keller Center Forum
Americans are divided on whether the government can address the nation’s most pressing problems, with over half finding that the government is “almost always wasteful and inefficient.” This loss of faith in public institutions, whether deserved or undeserved, has broader consequences for the well-being of everyday Americans.
Trust in government is more than a measure of popularity; it shapes how the public itself interacts with government. Mistrust damages social cohesion, political participation, and undermines the endurance of democratic institutions. These issues are broadly corrosive, but how do they impact the average American?
The Center for Effective Government invites you to join Democracy Fellow Donald Sherman (Executive Director and Chief Counsel, Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington) to examine mistrust in government, and explore how a strong democracy can deliver for everyone. This conversation will feature Julián Castro (Chief Executive Officer, Latino Community Foundation), Marc Racicot (Former Governor of Montana), and Prof. Molly Offer-Westort (Department of Political Science, University of Chicago).
Reception to follow for registered attendees.
