Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s ousting as Speaker of the House marked the first time in history that a Speaker has been forced to vacate the Chair. Amidst unprecedented obstacles to selecting a speaker and a looming government shutdown, the House has been plunged into uncertainty and inactivity. Soren Dayton - 2023 Democracy Fellow and Director of Governance at the Niskanen Center, offers his analysis on the House’s path to legislating through crisis. The Center for Effective Government and Chicago Policy Review are excited to invite students to discuss this issue and more at a Lunch N’ Learn with Soren Dayton on October 30th at the Keller Center.
The event consists of a 75-minute seminar in Room 4009 of the Keller Center with boxed meals provided to guests during the event.
